At Horta da Terra, we believe that food is a powerful tool for transformation—and when aligned with nature’s wisdom, it can regenerate territories, inspire change, and strengthen lives.
We are proud to have participated in the international project “The Big Food Redesign,” promoted by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, one of the world’s leading organizations focused on accelerating the circular economy. The initiative brings together companies from across the globe to co-create food solutions that regenerate nature, promote health, and generate positive impact throughout the entire supply chain.
As a Brazilian Nature Tech company specializing in Amazonian ingredients, being selected to be part of this transformative movement reinforces our purpose as representatives of the Amazon’s biodiversity.
Circular design as a tool for transformation
At Horta da Terra, we learn from nature, which is why our processes are centered on sustainable agriculture and the circular economy. We prioritize non-conventional edible plants (PANCs) and regenerative practices, working in partnership with small producers who share our values of sustainability.
Combining these values with the principles of circular design, we developed five prototype functional shots that embody our mission: to deliver systemic health, highlight non-conventional edible plants (PANCs), and promote the regeneration of the standing forest.
“It was a major challenge. The project pushed us to fast-track our business journey by three to five years, giving us a directly applicable portfolio aimed at end consumers,” shared Bruno Kato, CEO and founder of Horta da Terra, in an interview with the foundation.
Throughout the process, we refined our portfolio based on scientific, ecological, and market criteria. We mapped Amazonian species with high functional and nutritional potential, assessed their feasibility for international markets, and grounded our approach in technical literature to mitigate risks.
The result was the creation of an initial line of seven freeze-dried native ingredients, combined into blends such as:
- Vitality Awakening
- Afternoon Elixir
- Jungle!
- Amazonian Dream
Each one was designed for different moments of the day and specific health goals.
Beyond the product: a regenerative experience
Our design concept extended to the consumer experience and packaging: in addition to our care with ingredients, we are transitioning to compostable and biodegradable solutions, reducing waste and closing loops intelligently.
According to our CEO Bruno Kato, “Circular design is what most closely mirrors natural processes. Nature is cyclical. Regenerative business is absolutely possible.”
A collaborative journey with global impact
This partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation represents more than international validation of our purpose—it’s the beginning of a collaborative and inspiring journey.
We believe that the future of food lies in solutions that respect the pace of the forest, expand access to biodiversity, and strengthen life across all territories.
“Seeing other global players embrace circularity and regeneration throughout the entire production and consumption chain was a great joy for us—and the beginning of a partnership filled with synergy and great outcomes ahead,” Bruno concludes.
We remain confident that the future of food is rooted in respecting nature’s timing, expanding access to Brazilian biodiversity, and strengthening life in all its cycles.
